Artist Statement
My work illustrates nature in a way that is both picturesque and playful, with a focus on the beautiful elements of nature as envisioned through a child’s eyes. The narratives expressed in my art depict nature idealistically, in a state far from the current deteriorated condition of the world resulting from human exploitation of natural resources and disregard for the health and welfare of other living things. In this way my work functions as a gentle form of protest art by offering a vision of what the human relationship to the natural world could and should be: interactive, respectful, healing, and mutually supportive. Instead of focusing on the negative aspects of humans’ relationship with the natural world, I aim to create a reverential space for my viewer to reflect on their own personal relationship with nature. Art can evoke many different emotions. Mine is meant to inspire hope and action towards the world's environmental concerns instead of fear, guilt, and recrimination.
